The children in P2 have been reading the book Laura's Star by Klaus Baumgart. They wrote a message and tied it to a balloon.
AMAZING Artwork Unveiled!
Notice anything different in reception?
Our students have produced a collaborative piece of work based on their thoughts and feelings around activities done during the workshops at the end of the Summer term.
Students in ks3 and 4 created decorative masks and used comments from everyone in school collected at the time of the workshops. They carefully chose words like 'awesome' and 'amazing' and pressed letters into the masks. Other students chose pictures of students doing activities to form the basis of their design. Children in foundation stage pressed cutters and stamps into clay and produced very creative pieces.
All the designs were fired and glazed from July to September in our newly refurbished kiln and mounted on a striking background bearing the Newman school motto 'Better Never Stops'.
Special thanks to Mr John Ryan, site manager, for all his hard work putting the work up.
KS3.1 Autumn Equinox
Mrs Turnbull's form created these stunning pieces of art work to celebrate the start of Autumn. We layered on different textures using unusual objects like a toothbrush and a potato peeler. We used the shape of an Autumn leaf to make a stencil. We used black paint and a sponge to create the finished effect.
A Different Perspective
Matt B has showed amazing skill in photography and creativity in making a timelapse movie of the iconic frontage of Newman School.
As part of his Creative and Media Level 2 quailification, KS5C have to plan, film and edit a short film. Matt's idea features a scene where he wanted to demonstrate the passage of time. He reasearched different ways of showing the passage of time, and decided timelapse photography was the best.
Enjoy this sneak preview of Matt's work.
The Cope Group have started their new activities as part of the Boost Project.
Stephen, Sam P, Sam F and Matt have been on the first day of the Boost Project. They started the day with some team building activities and meeting their peer mentors.
The group then moved on to Awesome Walls indoor climbing facility in Sheffield, to take on their first challenge: Rock climbing!
Matthew said "It was a brilliant experience" and Megan and Ellie gave it the thumbs up. Everyone clapped and jeered when the crown went to the rightful King of Scotland at the end! Well done everyone. You were all stars!

Student Council Meeting - By Millie
On Thursday 23rd November we talked about the ideas of houses that people came up with. The ideas are from people from different classes and NAR. We had lots of different ideas and suggestions. I think all the ideas we came up with were very good. We have rounded it down to two options of the house names that we might change it to.
