KS4 pupils commemorated the 70th Anniversary of the D Day landings by learning about what happened on this historic day. We watched the coverage from France and took part in different activities. Ryan, Luke and Robert made an amphibious tank from old boxes. Kamila, Declan and Sarah wrote moving stories about a paratrooper. Elena and Andrew completed puzzles and pictures relating to the landings. "It is all about learning that soldiers missed their families and they had a rough time in the war. Some of them died. I wouldn't fly out of a parachute into the sea, they did it for us." (Sarah) "It isn't all about fighting. It is good that they stopped Hitler. The old soldiers looked really upset because they were remembering what happened." (Declan)
A group of Newman pupils went on a three-day fishing course run at Thrybergh Reservoir. Experienced fisherman John Blewitt led the course which was enjoyed by all those who took part. A newspaper article on the trip can be viewed by click the image on the right.
"I had two barbel out on Saturday, one on Spam and the other on double caster over a bed of hemp. Hardest game in the world."
Sixth Form Barge Trip
KS4.2 Have worked extremely hard in putting together some video guides for rules of the lunch time sports at Newman School.
The rules for 'Rounders'
KS4.2 decided that it would be a good idea if there was a reminder of the rules for the sports activities, so that anyone who joins in can have a look at the rules before they play. Each of the videos is about 2 minutes long and shows the most important rules. Well done to KS4.2 for al their hard work and to Adam for his cameo appearance.
You can find the page by going on to Info tab at the top of the page and then click Sports Rules, or by clicking here. You will also find the sports rota and some more general rules on that page.
Their story, "Kahluhla Plays a Trick in Barnacle Bay',was e-mailed to the CLC in advance and the staff there made lots of digital images which our students used to create their book.
Each student had a paragraph of the story to produce an illustration for using a program on the computer. It was a great day which both students and staff enjoyed. The book will be placed in reception for visitors to read.

Student Council Meeting - By Millie
On Thursday 23rd November we talked about the ideas of houses that people came up with. The ideas are from people from different classes and NAR. We had lots of different ideas and suggestions. I think all the ideas we came up with were very good. We have rounded it down to two options of the house names that we might change it to.
