    A Day in Ancient Rome

On Wednesday 24th June, the Year 4 children at Model Village enjoyed an exciting day of Roman-themed workshops. Jess from Historic Workshops visited the school to bring history to life, teaching the children all about Roman soldiers, their armour and their weapons.

The children enthusiastically took part in mock battles, learning how to use a gladius, scutum and pilum, just as Roman soldiers would have done. They then stepped into the role of archaeologists, carefully using small paintbrushes to uncover genuine historical artefacts.

In the afternoon, the children explored Roman leisure activities by playing traditional Roman board games. They also experienced the art of Roman writing, using bamboo quills and ink to write on papyrus, just as people did in ancient Rome.

It was a fantastic hands-on learning experience that brought the fascinating world of the Romans to life and gave the children a memorable insight into life in ancient Rome.
