Newman School ClosureDue to the ongoing coronavirus (cover-19) outbreak in the UK, Newman School is currently being operated by a 'skeleton staff'. This is necessary to reduce the risk spreading the disease, but also recognising our commitments to our young people and families, especially around keeping our young people safe.
Please refer to the 'Working at Home' section or our Facebook page for further updates and ways to contact us.
Welcome to our website. If this is your first or hundredth visit I am grateful that you are here to find out about Newman School. Please look around the website in detail and get in touch or visit us. Our children and young people are fully engaged in school and the community learning the skills to make their positive contribution to the world outside. We celebrate the successes, achievements and progress in our pupils, but we are also proud of the commitment of our parents, partners and staff. Welcome, enjoy and spread the positivity, we are Newman.
Click the button to go to our ‘Working at Home’ section – please note the this is currently under development and may not be perfect, but we’re working on it as quickly as we can.
News and Updates
There has been a lot of talk in the press around schools returning. As you will know some Primary schools have opened for a small number of year groups and secondary schools are looking for again one or two year groups returning at the end of this month. Where does that leave Special Schools like Newman? The advice for Special Schools did not give guidelines on year groups or dates for a return, so there is nothing specific we are working towards. Many of you have had to deal with extraordinary pressures with the lockdown and dealing with all the restrictions and concerns around Covid-19.
In school too to meet the new requirements additional demands have been placed on the school. You will all know the complexities of the building, we don’t have many large classrooms and only one full sized hall to help with social distancing. The receptions at NAR and main school are tight and our toilets are not spacious either. In addition we have a some staff dealing with a range of factors from health needs to childcare. Saying all of that we are in school and we want to help. If you have any worries please continue to talk to the people who ring from school and we will continue to work with you and help provide what we can to support you both in school and on the website.
When we have some more details on a wider opening I will put them out on the website and Facebook. In the meantime keep safe and stay in touch.
